Part Five of Te Kupu’s six-part global rapumentary NGATAHI – KNOW THE LINKS will have its premiere screening at City Gallery Wellington Cinema, Civic Square on the 9th of October at 7pm. Koha/Gold coin entry, 111 mins approx.
Featuring interviews and music from the Westbank cities of Ramallah, Bethlehem, Hebron and Nablus [PALESTINE], Belfast & Free Derry [IRELAND] and Manila & Baguio [PHILIPPINES]. Rap musician / digital-film-maker Te Kupu gives viewers access to musings and expressions not usually heard outside of progressive and activist circles
From Palestinian rap about the ‘Separation Wall’ and life under occupation, to ‘Bloody Sunday’ commemorations in Free Derry, and anti-government protests at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Day in Manila.
Cutting edge Hip-Hop-infused-digital-film-making presenting native and marginalized people’s perspectives concerning sovereignty, colonisation, extra-judicial killings and corporate globalism.
Filming has occured in 19 countries since 2000 and four dvd’s have been completed, available online. The series to be completed in 2010 will be over nine hours duration. A festival cut (parts 1 & 2) screened at Sundance Film Festival 2004, a tv edit has screened on Maori Television.
