New Zealand Comics Weekend Returns

All are invited to the third annual New Zealand Comics weekend to be held at Wellington’s Southern Cross from April 21-22, 10am till late. There will be exhibitions of comics, stalls by independent publishers, and a panel discussion lead by local comic expert Dr Tim Bollinger. New comics by artists including Dylan Horrocks, Brent Willis, Matt Tait and Matt Hunkin will be available. Also, don’t miss the opening at Graphic Comic Shop (106 Cuba Street) which will include the launch of PictoZine 2, NZ’s latest and most precocious comics anthology. The organisers promise there will be plenty of liquor so come and have a drink on them.

A New Book Of Fiction By Jason Shelley

We recently received in the mail The Romance by Jason Shelley featuring illustrations by Vishal Shah, and published by London’s Tlon Books. The first page promised that there would be ‘absolutely no fucking cocks allowed in this prose’. That promise was broken by the second page. The text is a piece of work written by Shelley at the beginning of the century. One 24-hour sitting of writing and four years of breathing space later, and the compact hardback has finally been released, two years ago. The artists stress that each page is an individual work of art. Essentially the story is about one man and his love for his craft. For more info check out: www.tlon.co.uk
